Look, a spanking new knitting blog! A Knitlog! A klog! (Okay, I'm done with that.)
A brief intro - my name is Shae but online I go by Slickery. I've been knitting since June, thanks to the lovely and talented Perpetually Blonde Keli. She not only taught me to knit, she taught me again after we realized I was knitting all stitches through the back loop. (Many more thanks to her for making this klog pretty for me because I am not good with the pretty computer stuff.)
As required by Online Knitters Community Law #417, I am knitting a Clapotis. (If you knit and you write about it online and you don't knit one of these? Tiny, evil knitting pixies will come to your house and turn all your center-pull balls into yarn spaghetti.)
I started the Clapotis on August 20 in Cascade 200 Quatro, color 9440. But for reasons unknown, I used size 9s instead of the size 8s listed on the pattern. I think I thought that since I tend to knit tight and I didn't want to swatch I should scale up.
Bad idea. I don't knit that tightly anymore, especially on the purl rows. I ran out of yarn with 69 rows to go (3 drops into the decrease section). I did loose about 20 yards of yarn when one skein tangled badly when I was balling it and I had to cut a section out. And this baby is big! It's 24" wide (pattern says it should be 21") and already 58" long (pattern is 55"). It won't get wider but it's going to end up being longer than I am tall (63"). I'm hoping to get another skein from the same dyelot this weekend at the same store. If not I'll have to start calling around and begging the internet.
And here's a closeup of the drop sections. It's not done but I'm still pretty proud of myself. It's my fifth knitting project and I think it's pretty good for a clueless newbie.
Next up will be a felted bag for my sister's Christmas present. In progress pictures of that soon.
